Eating Out

One of the trickiest parts of maintaining a vegan diet is navigating the fjords of dinner invites at other peoples' homes.  It's always nicer to eat at home (be it your own or a friend's), but when you don't have any say in the menu, it feels ungracious to be picky or turn down food. I've found that the best way to deal with this type of situation is to offer to bring a dish of your own.  It's super helpful to your host and you're guaranteed something vegan to eat.

Luckily, when my sister-in-law invited us to dinner a few weeks back, she offered to cook us a full vegan meal (and I brought BabyCakes cupcakes for dessert, yum!).  It was so nice to be able to go out and not worry about offending anyone!  She made us a superyummy thai style salad, then a big veggie stir fry with rice.  She's actually got her own blog all about her journey to learn the ins and outs of the culinary world and she's posted the recipes there!  While her blog, Cooking with Kessner, is certainly not vegan, there are some good veggie recipes to check out and it's absolutely a fun read.

Here are some pictures of my brother-in-law and sister-in-law from our dinner.  How cute are they?!?:
